Due to the holidays, I ended up being too busy to post this before the end of the year. I decided to just skip the December update and use this for January, which gives me a bit more time to find things for February now. Anyway, onto the new stuff!
Smash City
This new game looks like a hybrid between a dexterity game and King of Tokyo, which seems like a perfect combination. Hopefully the game is as fun as it looks!
Franchise
A re-implementation of a game I never heard of, Medieval Merchant, based on looks alone it feels like a cross between Food Chain Magnate and Power Grid, which are two great games to be compared to.
Yokohama Duel
Yokohama is one of the highest ranked games on my list of games I want to play, so I am just as excited about this two-player version which possibly could hit the table before the original.
Terra Mystica: Age of Innovation
A big expansion to my #1 ranked game is an instant purchase for me. I can't wait to see what it adds. That said, I still haven't even gotten around to playing Fire & Ice much.
Tiny Towns
I don't know much about this game other than it looks like a simple and short city building game, but that is exactly the sort of game that would catch my attention. Hopefully it ends up being a great little gateway filler!
Stonehenge and the Sun
Another dexterity game that is on Kickstarter that I likely won't back, but visually it looks really nice and I will keep an eye on it. It is from the creators of Tokyo Highway, which was a dexterity game I really enjoyed trying at SHUX 18.
Sunflower Valley
It wouldn't be a new discovery list without something from Roland Wright, who seems to be pumping out new games every month. This one has everything that a roll and write needs to grab my attention - colorful artwork and an interesting theme. The dry erase is a bonus!
Camel Up (Second Edition)
When I first saw this second edition of this fun gateway game, I ignored it because I thought it was just art change. However, it adds a couple new mechanics including crazy camels and a new plastic pyramid that holds back one of the dice each round. I'm not sure if I will pick it up since I have the original plus the expansion, but we'll see.
Wingspan
Stonemaier Games has become the new Days of Wonder in that because they only have one or two releases a year, each one is notable and this one is no different. A card-driven, engine-building themed around birds immediately caught my attention and I can't wait to try it out.
Cities: Skylines
Two new city-building games announced in the past month is great news for me! Although I've never played the PC version, I heard it is great. This is probably just capitalizing off of the name recognition, so hopefully it turns out well.
