New Discoveries - April 2019

Talisman: Kingdom Hearts Edition I've heard about Talisman and from what I know, it is a decent gateway game. However, I love the Kingdom Hearts IP and putting that layer on an established game may make this an instant purchase for me. Walking in Burano This is a gorgeous looking game. This also reminds me of the company's other big board game, Burano, which I have not played yet but purchased on theme alone. I think this will likely hit the table first since it is much easier to get a card game played these days. Taverns of Tiefenthal Another big game from Wolfgang Warsch? Sign me up now! All of his games have been hits with me and this one is no exception featuring a very fun theme of running your own tavern. This instantly is one of my most anticipated games of the year. Key Market II A new Kickstarter that is re-visiting another classic entry into the "Key" series, I might not back this one because it does not reach my Kickstarter thresholds...

2019 Top 100 Games I Want to Play - #100-91

What is maybe even more fun than ranking games I have played? Looking ahead at games I want to play and ranking how much I want to play them! From my year-end review, it is clear that there are a lot more games that I want to play than I have played, but for my own sanity I only ranked as many games as my Top Games of All-Time, which this year was 150. I did make a list in 2018, but never posted it, so there will be references to a game's previous position on that list if it is still on this list. There were a lot of games I played, a lot of new games released, and my discovery of older games, so this list is going to fluctuate much more than my Top Games of All-Time. A bit of background on how I came up with the rankings - when I looked through all the titles in the Top 3800 Games of All-Time on BoardGameGeek during the last week of 2018 in making my own all-time list, I also noted the titles that I would like to play. Similarly, I used the Board Game Ranking Engine on Pub Meep...

2019 Top 100 Games of All-Time - #100-91

This year my Top 100 Games of All-Time list changed a lot. As mentioned in my year-end review, I played over 100 new games so it was likely that many of them would enter my Top 100 as it nearly doubled the number of games I have played. The discovery of online line turn-based board games really helped to push this total higher, as did the use of a tracking app. Attending SHUX '18 also introduced me to a lot of games, but in those instances it was more of a one-time play so it is possible that some of these will drop off next year if I don't play them again. I played so many games I was able to rank 150 of them comfortably and will be following this list up with brief comments on those next 50 games that didn't make the Top 100. A refresh on the background on how I came up with the rankings. First I looked through the Top 3800 Games of All-Time on BoardGameGeek during the last week of 2018 and listed all the games I had played enough of to warrant ranking. Then I used the...
